OFAC Renames Darfur Sanctions, Updates Venezuela, Grammer

Treasury's Office of Foreign Asset Control issued notices renaming and modifying sanctions in Sudan, updating Venezuela FAQs, and making grammatical changes to update existing sanctions.

Sudan Stabilization Sanctions

OFAC is now amending the Regulations to implement provisions of E.O. 14098, “Imposing Sanctions on Certain Persons Destabilizing Sudan and Undermining the Goal of a Democratic Transition”.

In addition, OFAC is amending the Regulations to update or add new definitions, general licenses, and interpretative guidance, among other regulatory provisions.

Topics include the provision of legal services, international organizations, nutrition and medical trade.

General licenses and statements of licensing policy relating to this part also may be available through the Sudan Stabilization Sanctions Regulations sanctions page on OFAC’s website: https://ofac.treasury.gov 

Furthermore, OFAC is renaming the Darfur Sanctions Regulations as the Sudan Stabilization Sanctions Regulations to reflect the expanded scope of the national emergency, as set forth in E.O. 14098.

On March 5, Treasury's Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) Published a notic "Updating Contact Information and Grammatical Terminology in Office of Foreign Assets Control Regulations."

Venezuela

On February 29, 2024, OFAC issued Venezuela GL 45B, “Authorizing Certain Repatriation Transactions Involving Consorcio Venezolano de Industrias Aeronáuticas y Servicios Aéreos, S.A.,” which narrowed the scope of transactions previously authorized by GL 45A.

In addition, OFAC is publishing Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) 1167, is updating FAQs 1137 and 1141, and has deleted FAQs 1142, 1143, and 1144, to accompany the recently amended Venezuela General License 45B.
