Orban Crony Sanctioned

Posted

OFAC has sanctioned a senior Hungarian government official, for his involvement in corruption in Hungary. Antal Rogan is Minister in Charge of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s Cabinet Office.

Rogan controls many government entities, including the National Communications Office, the Digital Government Agency, and the Hungarian Tourism Agency.

Public sector corruption in Hungary has been worsening for more than a decade, leading to Hungary receiving the lowest score of any European Union (EU) member state on Transparency International’s 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index for the second consecutive year.

Hungary’s failure to address transparency issues in its public procurement mechanisms has most recently led to a loss of over one billion Euros in future funding from the European Union.
