Speaker Mike Johnson named Michigan representative John Molnar to take over the Chairmanship of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party being vacated by Rep. Mike Gallagher(R-WI).
The Midland Michigan lawmaker can be expected to continue Mr. Gallagher's efforts to cultivate bipartisan consensus on commercial relations with our greatest adversary.
“I am thankful to the Speaker for this appointment, and I look forward to working with Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi, the members of the Select Committee, House leaders, and the standing committees in the weeks and months ahead, Mr. Moolenaar said.
Mr. Gallagher released the following statement on the appointment of Mr. Moolenaar to lead the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party after the Chairman's resignation on April 19th, 2024.
“Representative John Moolenaar will be an incredible leader of the Select Committee. John understands the grave military, economic, and ideological threat posed by the CCP and will continue to advance an agenda that will best position our country to fight and win the strategic competition between the United States and our nation’s foremost adversary, the Chinese Communist Party.”
Last week the House unanimously included Congressman John Moolenaar’s amendment to water permitting legislation that will "streamline the federal permitting process."
Moolenaar’s amendment, which passed by voice vote, would prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from awarding water permits to companies and subsidiaries that are controlled by foreign countries of concern. Those countries are China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
The entire bill, the Creating Confidence in Clean Water Permitting Act, was passed by the House on a largely party-line vote.
