A Virginia couple were indicted for sanctions violations and money laundering related to the Husband's work as a TV presenter and the wife's acting as an art & collectibles procurement agent for sanctioned Russian oligarch Aleksander Udoddov.
Dimitri Simes, a U.S. Citizen, was President and CEO of the Washington think tank Center for the National Interest and played an active role in Russian support of the 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump, according to the Muller Report.
Simes is charged with continuing his employment as presenter for Channel One Russia, receiving over $1 million in compensation since OFAC sanctioned the outlet. Last Christmas, Simes and his co-host received the "Government of Russia 2023 Award for Achievements in the Field of Mass Media."
His wife Anastasia Simes, a dual US and Russian citizen, was named as a co-conspirator, as well as in a seperate indictment for purchasing art and antiques for the benefit of Udovov from galleries and auction houses in the United States and Europe, and having the items shipped to her residence in Huntly, Virginia, where they were stored for onward shipment to Russia.
