Blumenauer Leaving Congress

Oregon Democrat Rep. Earl Blumenauer – who has taken an active role in trade legislation – has announced he will not seek reelection.

Currently the ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means trade subcommittee, Mr. Blumenauer served as chair of the subcommittee in the previous Congress.

He has served in Congress for over 27 years.

In announcing his decision to retire, Mr. Blumenauer cited among his chief accomplishment major legislation to stop imports of illegally harvested timber from around the world into the United States that has become a model for countries around the world.
